Members from the Rotary Club of Stornoway were joined by members from the Interact team in attending the Annual Conference held in Aviemore.

A Taste of the Isles

Whilst attending the Annual Rotary Conference in Aviemore, the Interact Club took the opportunity to bring "A Taste of the Isles" to an audience of about 1000 Rotarian's.

With the support of Stag Bakeries and Charles Macleod's, the Club sold traditional Hebridean produce including the award winning Seaweed Water Biscuits and Stornoway Black Pudding to the Rotarian's and their families. The Hebridean goodies were extremely well received, and all profits were donated to the "Shelter Box" Philippines Disaster fund.

Literacy Boxes

At the Annual Rotary Conference, the Club further aided others globally, presenting a cheque for £825 to Ian Parker, Chairman of the Literacy Box Trust.
The Interact Club used the funds they had raised through their local activities to pay for 3 of these resource boxes. The Trust supply boxes of school resources to schools in Zambia, and are one of three international charities the Nicolson Institute are supporting financially this year.
Ian Parker gave the Club a very detailed presentation on his recent visit to “Old MacDonalds Farm” orphanage in Zambia, which is run by Lewis couple Don and Christine MacDonald, and are one of the projects supported by the Literacy Box Trust.
